I’ve consciously tried to avoid writing an essay for this post – preferring to show you my application instead. So here’s a very quick introduction to my Red Bull Racing internship application…
As you may or may not be aware, I’m a bit of a marketing/graphics geek, so simply writing a traditional CV was never going to be an option. Instead I’ve tried to create something that I hope will showcase my individually and stand out from the hundreds of applications they must have received.
My idea was pretty simple; take a trait from each of this season’s circuits and compare it to a similar trait of my own. For example, Malaysia requires a great deal of perseverance from the drivers, as did this application for me!
I went on to create a standard ‘2012 F1 Circuit Guide’ and then added a note to each track referencing a different characteristic that I felt gave you an insight into my skills, hobbies, personality etc…
The finished result is a PDF which is viewable on any computer, but looks particularly nice when displayed on a tablet, such as an iPad.
On the actual application form I drew the outline of an iPad, with a QR code in the centre for accessing the guide simply and quickly. Around this I included some of my notes from my initial brainstorming ideas.
Here’s a quick video to show you how the whole thing comes together:
Since the deadline date has now passed, if anyone else is prepared to show their application then please leave a comment in the box below. Thanks!

Wow it looks really good, very impressed! Good luck xx
I’m very very impressed mate. We had the same ideas with the QR thing (though I didn’t do it in the end) except you have the digital editing skills that I want and am learning right now. Bravo, aesthetically pleasing and streamlined. I learned some stuff just by looking at it.
here’s mine. idea is there, digital visual editing however, is not my forte. =)
i used apple’s pages since i’m still on a beginner’s course in photoshop and illustrator and yet to even open indesign.

Just a quick question, when you uploaded your video to youtube and entered the rbrinternships e-mail address. Does it now say name unavailable when you click on video manager and look under privacy settings?
Just wondered if yours was the same as im sure i entered the address given.
Hey Tom,
Yes it does say that – confused me as well. I tried to enter their email address again to ensure it was the correct one and it wouldn’t let me, so I assumed therefore it was correct.
Hopefully other people have had this issue too and it isn’t just us
Ha thanks, ive entered it a few times and it still says it, so its nice to know im not the only one
We can appeal together if they exclude our videos because it didn’t work properly
